Three Women. One Endangered Tradition.

MIAMI, FL — May 11, 2026. West Encounters East® announces the rebroadcast of its

latest documentary series, The Fragility of Tradition, directed by Stella Holmes and written

by Linda Corley. An official selection of the La Femme Film Festival in Los Angeles, the film

returns to television on May 22 at 7:30 PM on WPBT (South Florida PBS) and May

24 at 9:30 PM on WXEL — offering audiences another opportunity to engage with its

exploration of cultural preservation, artistic legacy, and transformation.

West Encounters East®: The Fragility of Tradition explores the resilience of Japan’s

centuries-old Kōgei traditions while highlighting the groundbreaking women artists who are

transforming them. From ceramics and metalwork to bamboo artistry, the film follows three

extraordinary women as they challenge the male-dominated structures of their cultural

heritage, revealing how fragility and strength often coexist.

At a moment when cultural identity and artistic legacy are being reexamined worldwide,

West Encounters East®: The Fragility of Tradition emerges as both a visually striking

documentary and a vital cultural call to action. This rebroadcast is more than a second

viewing—it is an opportunity for audiences, critics, and media to witness and amplify a story

that is as urgent as it is beautiful. With Japan’s Kōgei traditions now in danger of

disappearing, this is not just a film to watch, but a story that demands attention,

conversation, and preservation.

“These women are not just preserving an art form — they are pushing it forward under

extraordinary pressure. That quiet act of courage is what drew me to this story, and it is

why I believe it deserves to be seen again now.”

— Stella Holmes
